As we age, our facial skin doesn’t always do the best job of exfoliation. A buildup of old, tired skin cells; sun damage; oils; and natural aging can leave our skin tone dull and even grey, and our skin texture can become uneven and rough. Freckles and areas of uneven pigmentation can be everywhere.
At Dr. Fedele’s, we use Pearl Resurfacing to give our patients dramatic rejuvenation without dramatic recovery times.
How Does A Pearl Treatment Work?
The Pearl resurfacing procedure is FDA-cleared for facial rejuvenation. Pearl resurfacing combines the effectiveness of resurfacing lasers with the safe and gentle properties of non-invasive treatments to remove wrinkles, superficial acne scarring, freckles, and sun damage.
This may sound like serious downtime is in store. Not so. The Pearl laser is non-ablative, meaning it does not destroy cells within the epidermis. This means our Pearl resurfacing treatments allow for far shorter downtime than other more aggressive fractionated lasers. Our treatments offer an overall rejuvenation in less than one week.
Prior to your Pearl session, we apply topical numbing anesthetic to keep you comfortable. The Pearl laser then treats the top layer of your skin by delivering very short laser pulses of laser energy in a pre-selected pattern. The laser also delivers heat to the deeper tissue in the dermis layer of the skin, triggering new collagen production to smooth the surface skin.
After your Pearl session, your skin will immediately form a natural protective dressing that helps minimize downtime and jumpstarts skin restoration. This layer will peel off after 3-5 days, and it will be replaced by brighter, new, healthy skin. This removal of the surface skin will lessen acne scarring, wrinkles, and areas of uneven pigmentation, usually in as little as a single treatment.
Afterward
Your skin will feel tight and have a sunburned appearance. The damaged skin will begin to slough off on day 3 or 4. It’s important to allow this to happen on its own, and to not pick, rub, or scrub your skin. After your skin sheds the damaged, old cells they are replaced with younger, more radiant skin. As a result of the deeper skin heating, you will have increased collagen production for 4-6 weeks post treatment.
